On 20th July 1969, American Astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the surface of the moon whilst an audience of approximately 50 million households across the world watched in awe. This would never have been possible without the help of the Apollo 11 crew, Michaels Collins and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.
On Sunday evening in America the trio was reunited for what could well be the last time and with each of them approaching their 80th birthday there will be a joint lecture on the history of space held at Smithsonian institution's National Air and Space Museum in Washington.
The crew of Apollo 11 are scheduled to attend and event at the White House today, where each of them will be honoured by President Barack Obama.
In one of their few public appearances, the trio encouraged the effort to accomplish the next small step for man, and the next giant leap for mankind - landing successfully on Mars. Aldrin said this should be the main focus for NASA in the near future.
